A famous saying regarding the tragedy of the Titanic is “women and children first”. However, this saying came almost sixty years before the sinking of the Titanic. In fact, “women and children first” was an order that came from the captain of the HMS Birkenhead when disaster struck and the HMS Birkenhead crashed into rocks.
